And here's an evil linka real site NOT to visit & NOT to confuse with
. That site is called unhappybirthday.com (notice it is NOT a link). It's some tool of ASCAP that exists to remind you: "A birthday that involves copyright infringement is an unhappy birthday."
It gives you a sample letter that you can use to tattle to ASCAP if you are ever in a public place & happen to overhear Happy Birthday being "performed" "illegally." Plus there are a number of other resources on the site to basically help you start your own personal fascist regime. I kid you not, here is a quote from the site:
"If you have seen someone singing Happy Birthday in a restaurant, a park, or at a school, you should tell ASCAP so that they can arrange for a license. If you are an offender, you should apologize and offer to pay whatever is due — a nickel, a quarter, a dollar — whatever ASCAP demands. There is an overwhelming amount of copyright infringement of Happy Birthday. Let's right the balance and tell ASCAP about every one of these violations!"
Unbelievable. Well, while they're off crying about Happy Birthday (the stupidest song in the world!!) we'll be off infringing the copyrights of much better songs! Let's right the balance indeed...
